To
me, church is an experience and a teaching is wisdom. If knowledge
puffs up and love edifies, then what we need in church today
is less teaching and more love. Our church is made up of "people",
people who love the Lord and love His people. Our church is
an experience; an experience of God's Love, God's Word, and
worship. If we the church continue to become the cult of personality
that the world has become, then experiencing God is a thing
of the past, and playing "church" for the sake of
our social disorders is all we have left. No edification,
just a lot of "puffed up." Billy Graham once said,
"The greatest sin of American Christians is hearing sermons
and listening to nothing." Roger Waters from the rock
group Pink Floyd said, "America is amused to death."
In my opinion, he's right and the art of musing and meditation
of God's Word is all but lost. I will meditate
on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways. Psalm 119:15
Why
a disclaimer? Because if you are listening to these teachings
as a "try before you buy", then you've so missed
out on the absolute best part of Calvary Chapel Deerfield
Beach. We are the House of Prayer and the people of this place
love the Lord Jesus Christ. And if you will come here, they
will love you. Please do not let these teachings become an
excuse for you not to meditate and muse on God's Word. Pastor
Ken Graves of Calvary Chapel Bangor, Maine, one time said,
"God wants to show you something He hasn't shown anybody
in 2000 years about Himself. Do you want to know it? Turn
off the TV, put down the commentaries, turn off the CD player,
and listen to God." Isaiah wrote, "Come, let us
reason together."
I
am honored that you would actually want to listen to anything
that I have to say. I pray that these teachings would only
serve to edify your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ,
welling up in you a wellspring of living waters so abundant
that you just have to share it.
